Zakat

What is Zakat?

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and an obligatory act of worship for every able Muslim. Its literal meaning is “to cleanse” or “purification,” signifying the purification of wealth and soul by giving a portion of one’s wealth to those in need. As per Islamic regulations, Zakat is 2.5% of one year’s total cumulative wealth. It serves as a reminder that everything we own belongs to Allah and is a means of redistributing wealth to help the poor and vulnerable.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Whoever pays the zakat on his wealth will have its evil removed from him.”

Nisab on Gold and Silver

Zakat is only paid on assets exceeding the Nisab threshold, ensuring donors can meet their personal and family needs first. The Nisab is calculated based on gold or silver:

  • 87.48 grams of gold – approximately £4,759.79
  • 612.36 grams of silver – approximately £373.54

The difference in values reflects variations in demand for gold and silver. Use our online Zakat calculator to easily determine your Zakat amount.

100% Zakat Policy – Transforming Lives

At Aryana Aid, we are proud to operate a 100% Zakat Policy, ensuring every penny of your Zakat directly reaches those in need without deducting administrative fees.

Your Zakat has already:

  • Delivered life-saving aid to displaced refugees.
  • Supported disabled orphans.
  • Rehabilitated war widows.
  • Provided essential food and clean water to the poor.

This Ramadan, your support is crucial. Since September 2023, over half a million Afghans have been expelled from Pakistan, leaving many stranded at border camps. Aryana Aid is on the ground, providing winter emergency packs, food, and tents to these vulnerable families.

Zakat is Not Just for Ramadan
While many pay Zakat during Ramadan, it can be given any time of the year. Setting up a direct debit allows you to fulfil your obligation in manageable monthly instalments, ensuring consistent support for Zakat-eligible projects.

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
“Whoever relieves a hardship for a believer in this world, Allah will relieve one of his hardships on the Day of Resurrection.”

Make Your Zakat Count
Your Zakat transforms lives by delivering aid to internally displaced people, supporting orphans, and providing clean water and food to those in desperate need.

Let’s make a difference together.

Use your Zakat to transform lives in Afghanistan.

“We made them leaders, guiding by Our command, and We inspired them to do good deeds, the observance of the Salat and the giving of the Zakat. They were worshippers of Us.” – Quran, 21:73
